Card Business

One of many gripes I have with the Dutch public transport chipcard system is that you can’t see how much credit you have left. Turning my frustration into something constructive, I googled around a bit and mocked up a quick concept.

As it turns out, passive RFID can provide enough energy for a simple e-paper display. And that gives you all kinds of cool options. Displaying your credit of course, but the card could also display friendly messages like “have a good trip” while you’re checked in. It could even provide the latest location-specific alerts, updates and special offers. Something that could add value for users and transport companies alike.
